Process Waste - consists of water treatment waste,
clinkers, precipitator
ash,
recausticizing mud and
wood residue. These materials are collected by the Yard Department and are put in segregated piles in a
lay-down area. From there, the materials are trucked to licensed
landfills for disposal or sent for beneficial use.
Domestic Waste - is general refuse, food waste, cloth rags, coloured papers, wrappers/headers, yard rubble, gaskets, hoses, rope, filters and packing material. These are the wastes we commonly find in garbage containers throughout the mill and are considered
non-hazardous. This refuse is collected daily in large compactor bins or commercial waste bins. The bins are emptied periodically and the refuse is taken to the city landfill or recycled.
Recycled Hazardous Materials -
hazardous materials includes batteries, fluorescent tubes and bulbs, oil/oily water, ballasts, transformer oils, asbestos, mercury, compressed gas cylinders, solvents/lab chemicals, and radioactive gauges. These are collected and sent out for recycling, or disposal in government licensed waste facilities.
Recycled Materials - includes cardboard, paper and scrap metal. These materials are collected and sent to local facilities for recycling.
