As the largest consumer of energy in northern Ontario, Resolute Fores Products newsprint and kraft pulp mills in Thunder Bay purchase thousands of kilowatts of electrical power from the provincial power grid.
Yet every hour, the mills generate their own electrical power by burning bark and biomass in our boilers. This is a great saving to the environment and to our company.
The manufacture of pulp and paper products is an energy-intensive business. Our equipment is built on a gigantic scale. We produce finished product at a rate of multiple tonnes per hour. We generate—and treat—waste material at the same phenomenal rate. And all of this takes energy.
Energy, to a pulp and paper manufacturer like Resolute Forest Products, is another of our precious resources to be carefully conserved.
