Our mill operations quite naturally produce odours and smells—both good and bad. A great deal has been done to get rid of the bad odours.
In fact, since 1994 there’s been a 75% reduction in odours and an 85% reduction in airborne dirt particles leaving our facility. Many of these improvements have been small while others, like the new C Recovery Boiler, were a huge financial commitment.
Resolute Forest Products Air Improvement Program involves more than new equipment. It includes extensive air sampling at the stack, monitoring, engineering and an ongoing dialogue with the government.
For example, since 1999 the mill has completed two major air emission surveys, with another scheduled for 2005. Our mill is also one of the largest facilities in Ontario to use the latest air emission computer modeling to help us determine our priorities.
Future work includes new particulate control equipment in the lime kilns, a collection and incineration system for the kraft mill, and improvements to the B Recovery Boiler.
