When upgrades were made to the Graham Road in 1985, the original Aylsworth Bridge was bypassed. The bridge was left standing as it provided access to the Brightsand River Provincial Park. However, over time the bridge deteriorated and became unsafe.
Many agencies and organizations including; Ontario Parks, the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, the
Living Legacy Trust and Rigato/Ward Crossings Inc. developed a program, on behalf of Resolute Forest Products, to remove the old bridge.
Significant environmental work was incorporated into the project including shoreline stabilization and expansion of the existing walleye spawning area. The construction of a new boat launch and a new entry off the Graham Road completed the project and ensured the safety of the public entering the park.
