Professional forestry encompasses a wide range of activities, including approving
forest operation prescriptions (harvesting or silviculture), evaluating and classifying forest resources, evaluating impacts of forest management activities, performing audits, and planning and relocating roads. All forest management planning committees are chaired by a
Registered Professional Forester (RPF) and all forest management plans must be signed by an RPF. In Ontario, all RPF's belong to the
Ontario Professional Foresters' Association (OPFA).
The OPFA regulates its members through Bill 110, The Professional Foresters’ Act. The OPFA is guided by a detailed Code of Ethics and a disciplinary procedure for members acting in contravention of Bill 110, the Crown Forest Sustainability Act, or their Code of Ethics.
