Resolute Forest Products continues to support and participate in many research initiatives which address both timber and non-timber values. Many independent studies have been initiated within our own operating limits such as an in depth research on the habitat requirements of the American Pine Marten and Caribou Radio Collaring. We also maintain memberships in several research organizations including the Forest Engineering Research Institute of Canada (FERIC), the Sustainable Forest Management Network (SFMN) and the Forest Ecosystem Science Co-operative.
At this time, we are also a primary partner in the Legacy Forest Project, the most ambitious forest related research initiative in Ontario. The Legacy Forest includes the southern half of the Dog River-Matawin Forest, and all of the adjoining Quetico Provincial Park. The goal of this project is to study the effects of forest management on the landscape.
Equal areas of managed forest (Dog River-Matawin) and protected forest (Quetico) are included and provide a unique opportunity for researchers to address many issues, such as landscape level biodiversity and trends in non-timber values in managed and unmanaged forests.
More information is available at the Legacy Forest website.
