In 1997, Premier M. Harris initiated the Lands for Life project with the goal of completing Ontario’s system of parks and protected areas.
Representatives of many interest groups, including the resource-based industries of mining and forestry, naturalists, tourist outfitters, anglers, and hunters, voiced their opinions and concerns. Their recommendations were consolidated and, in 1998, the project was renamed
Ontario’s Living Legacy (OLL).
For Resolute Forest Products Thunder Bay Woodlands, 24% of our land base was placed in parks and protected areas, creating a unique operating environment.
In 1999, the $30 million trust fund, the
Living Legacy Trust (LLT) fund was established to support research initiatives in forest management – helping to mitigate the effects of OLL on the forest industry. Trust funds are also available to support initiatives aimed at improving access to fish and wildlife in Ontario.
The LLT has helped to fund many projects on Resolute Forest Product's Ontario Woodland’s licensed area. More information on the Living Legacy Trust is available on their
website .
